“…The mechanic’s workshop is the envy of the artist. An industrial warehouse, high ceiling, organized chaos, precision under dirt. Parts and fragments inherited from full bodies, leftovers accumulate waiting to be allocated. Halfway into becoming scrap, they are neither waste nor valued. Like in the workshop of the craftsman, tools, tests, errors and experiments are stacked in a private collection that traces a parallel story to the public product.
The workshop becomes the epicentre of the collaboration between the two artists for their proposal at Bombon. By recreating a sort of inverted mechanical workshop, where work consists in collecting materials with no value and re-composing them in unpredictable variations, the artists take customizing car culture as a reference to intervene the space turning it into a dysfunctional laboratory.
In an unlikely combination, Maynou and Mitjà take the artist’s workshop as a space for the transfiguration of debris: the workshop becomes an operation centre and performative space for an open-ended process…”
