Artist: Masbedo

This year, the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya hosts three video works by the artist duo Masbedo (Nicolò Massazza, Milan 1973, and Iacopo Bedogni, Sarzana 1970), in direct dialogue with its recently renovated sections of Renaissance and Baroque art. Madam Pinin (2017) proposes a reflection on the concept of beauty, its transience and its conservation through the story of conservator Pinin Brambilla Barcilon, who dedicated fifty thousand hours of her life to the restoration of Leonardo’s Last Supper. Fragile (2016) also focuses on the concept of “care” and the fragility of art, showing the image of a sick peacock being carried by his master through the halls of the Savoy gallery in Turin. Lastly, Blind Mirrors (2019) stages the convergence-conflict of two seemingly distant cultures, the Western European and the Indian-Tamil, in the evocative 18th-century setting of the party hall of Palazzo Gangi in Palermo. Here, Italian filmmaker Luchino Visconti shot the famous dance scene in his masterpiece film The Leopard (1963).
