At Christmas time, the Fundació Joan Miró commissions an artist working in Catalonia to create a special installation to mark the traditional winter holidays. This year, the Christmas project will be presented by Fina Miralles.

Fina Miralles (Sabadell, 1950) played a prominent role in the Catalan conceptual art movement, which emerged strongly in the 1970s. She was also instrumental in the creation of Espai 10 (subsequently Espai 13) at the Fundació Joan Miró later in that decade. From her current retreat in Cadaqués, Miralles is an active artist who remains faithful to her ongoing dialogue with the land, the sea and the rhythms of nature.

In Sow, Fina, that others will reap, Miralles links the symbology of the Manger with the winter solstice and the annual cycle of regeneration. Against a backdrop of infertility, a miraculous child is born, in the same way that after the apparent inactivity of winter, there follows an explosion of life in spring.
