The Barcelona City Council, the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe, in collaboration with Barcelona Building Construmat and ArquinFAD, promote the Barcelona Architecture Week 2021, a shared initiative that will take place 6 to 16 May in a hybrid edition, on-site and on line.

For ten days the Barcelona Architecture Week will offer a wide range of activities related with the world of architecture and the city. Beyond the physical, disciplinary and territorial boundaries, the event returns with the will of stimulating reflection on the built environment of cities and their value through the dissemination of architectural activity, knowledge, experience and debate.

Barcelona has in its urban architecture a daily heritage of undoubted value. The architecture is the base of the physical space in that it develops the life of the Barcelonans. Thus, the Barcelona Architecture Week wants to serve to reinforce this essential bond between architecture and citizenship.

This year, the Barcelona Architecture Week invites things to happen in a hybrid format, on site – if permitted by the Covid-19 restrictions in effect at the time of the celebration– and by radio, TV, social media and Internet. It’s about re-imagining together what conforms the city: from the small scale of rediscovered domesticity to the large scale of public space and the challenges of the future that arise.
