Exhibition

During the Barcelona Gallery Weekend, we present Teresa Solar’s second solo exhibition at Galeria Joan Prats, in which we will show recent sculptures and drawings.

Solar digs, through drawing and sculpture, a complex network of tunnels created for an always imminent escape. The new sculptures presented in the exhibition are configured as cavernous sections or corridors, with a clear zoomorphic and organic reminiscence, which are opened up before the viewer not with clean and surgical cuts, but torn and tugged: as if they were fossils discovered and hybridized with the machines that unearthed them. The construction of limits, self-protection and isolation inform a structure that begins in the autobiographical story and ends in the representation of large underground systems such as the urban metro or the mines.

We also present the piece Tuneladora de ficción (Fictional tunnel boring machine), in which the geological materiality of clay is combined with plastic, an unprecedented combination in Teresa Solar’s work. Furthermore, we will be showing a series of drawings, which the artist defines as “wild maps”: they are made on photographs of her own vocal cords and the drawings include different symbols and words as psychogeographic maps.

Exhibition carried out within the framework of the programming of Barcelona Gallery Weekend 2021.
