This autobiographical piece describes the complexities in the search for identity of a mixed-race girl who grew up in a mainly white environment. Concern and necessity prompted her to write about how being mixed heritage affects the construction of one’s identity. Rather than being perceived as something rich and diverse, for some this identity becomes an absolute loss of personality and a continuous reconstruction of it.
Ianire Gallego is from Alcorcón, Madrid. Although she is a clinical researcher, she has always been involved in the arts through dance, and since she was a child, writing has helped her to find calm in moments of doubt. After taking part in the residency for African and Afro-descendant artists at @Konventzero and collaborating in the seventh edition of @blackbarcelona_afro this year, she decided to continue investigating her life and give form to her work.
The eighth edition of KONVENT A L’ANTIC: a once-a-year chance to see, in Barcelona, the creations of resident artists at Konvent de Cal Rosal, a former convent of the late 19th century converted into a multidisciplinary and selfmanaged artistic centre.
