The Debates program in the Pavilion, as part of Barcelona Design Week, invites us to talk about the Barceloneta chair with its author.

The architect and designer Raffaella Mangiarotti (deepdesign) presents us, in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, the Barceloneta chair, a clear exponent of her ability to incorporate formal purity with the desire for cultural belonging not only in material expression and technical, but above all conceptual.

Mangiarotti will show us the design process of the Barceloneta chair, produced for the Italian furniture firm Serralunga, an innovative reinterpretation of the iconic “Barcelona” chair designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich in 1929.

Keeping the silhouette and the “quilted” effect for the backrest so characteristic of one of the most recognized chairs of the architecture of the Modern Movement, this remake is manufactured with a varnished steel structure and seat of high-density polyurethane dyed , with protection against ultraviolet rays, and thus makes available a new version that plays with its name and is comfortable and practical: stackable and weather-resistant.
