There was something about the way this thing existed that didn’t quite add up. Because in nature there is the idea of equality —there are twins, mitosis, mimesis— but the idea of the opposite does not seem to apply to the material, it seems to be a linguistic notion. The glitch, the flaw, is revealed as the operation becomes more complicated: that is, it is easy to imagine something sitting on green and turning red, but what would this object look like if it was placed on a tax bill? What is its formal opposite? Nothing, right, because there is no opposite of anything that is not abstract.
