The intersection between painting and drawing leads us to explore two different artistic forms, each with its own focus and characteristic technique.

In 2017, Bruna begins her artistic practice self-taught, focusing on painting, driven by the need to express her emotions. For her, portraiture has been very important from the beginning, and it continues to be so — except in drawing, where she usually focuses her attention on landscapes. Throughout 2023, the balance shifts, and drawing becomes much more prominent in her work. In this exhibition she decides to mix both languages that follow different processes but come from the same need.

In painting, the process arises from emotion and manifests through the stain, guided predominantly by intuition, thus forms emerge from the subconscious. She never has a defined idea of what she is looking for in the paintings until she finishes them. Although the paintings are small, not knowing what she is looking for requires a lot of patience; it’s more about the process than the result itself.

In this context, the themes represented are usually faces or fragments expressing internal states. It’s also a progression based on the evolution of brushstrokes, where there is a lot of oneself in it.

On the other hand, drawing invites us to a process that comes from observation, where the line predominates as a suggestive and expressive element. Here, the focus is on capturing the essence of reality through the stroke, in an act of contemplation and reflection. It’s about seeking the strength one wants to reveal from the represented element and trying to extract it. Landscapes, animals, and known human figures take center stage in this universe.

The convergence between painting and drawing allows these two artistic languages to meet and intertwine, merging intuition with observation and emotion with reflection.
