In this series of works, the Brazilian artist Laercio Redondo continues his research into disobedient and dissident personalities, who are often underrepresented or simply erased from canonical accounts. Redondo is particularly interested in hidden or little studied chapters in the official history of Modernism.

The trajectories of the Spanish artist Maruja Mallo and the French-American dancer, actress and singer Josephine Baker are the starting point for the creation of these pieces. Icons of 20th-century avant-garde culture, Mallo and Baker were controversial figures who scandalised society with their free, uncompromising stance, and their defence of, among other things, gender equality and the right of women to occupy spaces reserved for men (and white people). Both were also on the receiving end of rejection, criticism and prejudice, but nevertheless they paved the way for future generations.
