The Fundació Mies van der Rohe collaborates with the XII International Biennial of Landscape of Barcelona by hosting the ephemeral intervention of the Pop up Green 2023.

The intervention “The Urban Green Migration”, stems from the proposal “Native(s) Lifeways” by Walter Hood and Alma Du Solier for Carlo Scarpa Garden’s sculture courtyard in the Giardini della Biennale (1952). Hundreds of plants from Sardinia have occupied this space this summer and autumn, highlighting the links between people, architecture and landscape and providing a reflection on the generative value of migrations in the context of the climate crisis for a sustainable future. These plants must return to the Mediterranean climate in order to survive and the asphodels and palmettos from Venice will cover the surface of the small pond and part of the Pavilion before being planted definitively on Montjuïc.

This proposal is in line with the general theme of the 12th Barcelona Landscape Biennial, entitled “The Poetics of Remediation”, which will take place from 24 to 28 November. This initiative is the joint effort of the LW Circus-Onlus Association, the Barcelona International Biennial of Landscape, the Department of Parks and Gardens of the Barcelona City Council, the Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the Hood Design studio.

In addition, the last day of the intervention will coincide with the first Sunday of the month, that is, open day at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, we invite you to come and visit us!
