Josep Segú’s work focuses on the urban landscape, extolling it as an environment created by human beings. Initially influenced by Pop Art, his style has been evolving and incorporating references such as photorealism and resources taken from other artistic languages such as photography and cinema. He portrays panoramic landscapes of Barcelona, Tokyo or New York, with a precious detail, and with a treatment of light and color that surpasses reality.

Josep Segú takes some of the most emblematic places of the cities he portrays and highlights the industrial, consumerist, touristic and overcrowded nature of the cities of the 21st century. Although we can sometimes interpret a certain irony in his proposals, his compositions have no critical intent, quite the contrary. He seeks to enhance the vibrant energy of contemporary cities, full of life, movement and change. The artist himself declares: “I like the grids of modern buildings, the neon lights, the containers in the port…. I need the energy that urban overpopulation gives off”.

Josep Segú has a degree in Fine Arts and philology. In addition to painting, he works as a writer and art critic. His work has been presented in institutional exhibitions and galleries in Madrid as well as in other European cities and New York. He has been exhibiting at Sala Parés since 2013.
