Tres veces dije fuego (I Said Fire Three Times) is a research project that uses fire as a chemical reaction, as well as a metaphor to question violence, slow death and the organisation and control of bodies throughout history. In the form of a triptych, the self-immolating body, fire as an imaginary of disease and territory set alight are invoked through stories and anecdotes, exploring the possibilities of language to perform archives, questioning the restitutive powers of writing and performance.

Marta Echaves will present one part of this project, entitled Te llevaré flores (I’ll Bring You Flowers), on 2 November, when she will perform a living memorial action in order to share some of the materials she developed during the development period of her Barcelona Producció grant. In the words of Saidiya Hartman: ‘Is it possible to construct a story from “the locus of impossible speech” or resurrect lives from the ruins? Can beauty provide an antidote to dishonour, and love a way to “exhume buried cries” and reanimate the dead?’
