Giving visibility to the plastic and visual artists of the territory. This is the objective with which, in 2012, L’Irradiador was created, driven by the Centre d’Art de Tarragona and Lo Pati, Centre d’Art Terres de l’Ebre. The project brought together a directory with fifty-two artists from the Camp de Tarragona and the Terres de l’Ebre, with the intention of strengthening the local cultural context and favoring a framework for growth and professional consolidation for the creators.

Now, more than ten years later, the project has been updated with the aim of confirming the excellence and high level of existing artistic proposals in our regions and offering an adequate visibility framework. Artsud – Associació d’Artistes Visuals Comarques del Sud, the Centre d’Art Lo Pati in Amposta, and Mèdol, Centre d’Arts Contemporànies de Tarragona, with the advice of reference artists in the territory, have carried out a new mapping of the artistic ecosystem of the demarcation and have incorporated fifty-six new artists into the database through a committee that has been responsible for validating the professional trajectory of the candidates. In total, therefore, one hundred eight profiles can be consulted.

The web directory of L’Irradiador is hosted on the Lo Pati website (www.lopati.cat) and beyond fostering a space for communication and exchange between artists, the public, and other cultural agents of contemporary visual arts, it seeks to become a visible brand incorporated into the programming of centers and cultural institutions, both in the territory and outside the demarcation. For this reason, the project will be accompanied by actions, meetings, and dissemination strategies such as interviews and collaborations in specialized media. Currently, this archive is useful for the programming of Lo Pati and Mèdol.

40% are women The update of the directory has allowed us to learn new key information about the sector, such as the number of artists residing abroad (more than 10%), gender figures (40% are women), or the number of artists present in collections (approximately 40%). These figures will also serve to reflect on the sector’s challenges regarding diversity in the representation of artists, taking into account intersectional criteria and the existence of different structural discriminations both in the art world and in the rest of society.
